John O' Groats

John O' Groats is a small town on the most northen bit of land of the Scottish mainland. Its famous for is fishing industry and tourism as many people make a the trip to see the famous sign and buildings.

The landmark Journey's End signpost at John o' Groats was installed in 1964 on private land and operated as a visitor attraction by a Penzance-based photography company that also operates its counterpart at Land's End. Visitors paid a fee for a photograph of themselves next to the signpost, displaying either a message or the date and distance to a location of their choice.

The stacks themselves were formed by water eroding the coastline around the stacks leaving them free standing in the water. A number of many different types of birds inhabit them, such as puffins and seagulls. There is a famous walking route spanning 2.9Km that takes you past the stacks and along the coastline.
